Alabama Pecan Growers – Summer Tour
August 2, 2022
APGA’s Summer Tour 2022 will be heading to north Alabama this year. We will start our tour at Newberry Farms in Ardmore, Alabama, owned by Joe Newberry.
Located at 1569 Macedonia Rd., Newberry Farm started off as a field grown nursery operation and 46 pecan trees over 25 years ago. At that time, it was a joint operation with Joe’s father Howard Newberry. In 2015 it was decided to concentrate solely on growing pecans. Now there are over 900 trees of Jackson, Kanza, Lakota, Pawnee, and Oconee on approximately 203 acres. They have a 7500 square foot processing facility.
After we finish at Newberry Pecans will travel south to Hartselle, Alabama and visit Reeves Farms which is a four generation, 6 decades operation growing peaches and other fruit and vegetables. We will be having lunch at Reeves Farms at their roadside retail market. Here Mike Reeves will talk to us about the history of Reeves Farm, growing peaches, and the other crops that they grow. At the market we will get a look at how they make ice cream. Reeves Farms is located at 336 Hwy 36E, Hartselle, AL 35640
